-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to AdventureNet I take it that you are interested in The AdventureNet network. As much as we want this net to be free and fun we have to lay out some guidelines. Guidelines help you to know better what you can expect and what you can expect. They also help to answer some questions that you might have. If you decide to join us, that's great. If not, that's ok too! We feel we have the most fun and easy to use net in the world. If you agree then join in and enjoy the messages and communication. Read how to apply at the end of this document. Thank you, Nathan Prugh aka Nathan AdventureNet 33:253/1 And Gert Andersen Aka Gert/Kofo AdventureNet 33:2100/1 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guidelines ~~~~~~~~~~ In order to join AdventureNet, we require you to have AT LEAST the following to be eligable for the net: 1) A full-time (24 (23 if ZMH) hours, 7 days a week) BBS if part time or telnet that is ok but we need to know in the application process. Amendment: In today's world of the internet. The above is not too useful in many regards. It is fine if you are part time or not up all the time. However, a bare minimum needs to be given so that I can contact or deliver mail. Thus its vital to let me know o those situations ahead of time. [2/12/94] 2) FrontDoor or something to that extent ALREADY setup and working OR a internet accessible software that can access the Internet. Telnet systems are allowed as long as they are able to get their mail/files through some method. ITs vital that some form of mail transport be allowed thus if no connectivity then can't really be useful to the net. 3) An echomail processor of some sort (Squish, Gecho..etc) 4) Accepting new users on your BBS. 5) You must know how to setup a net, and not come to us to show you how to do EVERYTHING. We will help out on little things, but remember, we have a lot of other things going on, and don't have time to deal with someone who doesn't know what they are doing. This doesn't mean we won't help just not do everything for you. 6) Follow rules of common sense and rules of each echo. Thats it! If you are already in a net, chances are, you meet all of these requirements and you should have no problems. If you met all of the above, you should continue reading. If not, don't waste your time.. The guidelines have been edited (Oct '98) to fit the modern internet world of transmissions and telnet. Even though the above guidelines are set above they are not set in stone and we will work on individual cases. Thank you for taking an interest in AdventureNet. Please read the included text files for more information regarding AdventureNet. In order to obtain a AdventureNet node number, you should do the following: Read up on AdventureNet. Your local coordinator should have included some information in the documentation regarding the systems in a particular region who will help you to get setup. If there are no systems in your area, we would appreciate it if you would become a region or local coordinator for your area. To do this, contact me, Scott Adams, at 1:112/91@FidoNet. We will setup a zone/region/net to include your area. If there is a system in your area, you should contact the sysop of that system for information. In today's world of internet transfers for networks host and regional structure of nets aren't as strict as they once were so we expect this to be easy to deal with. Once you have located a local coordinator or have contacted one of us, you should run the application program included in the packet. The information provided in the application is for our purposes only. Information about your BBS is used to compile the nodelist. The personal information helps your local coordinator to contact you if system to system connections can not be established. If your local coordinator permits it, you may also be able to join by sending netmail with the required information or by speaking the good old fashioned way, voice to voice. Email will work as well (used in mime encoded form or text) to advnet@internetking.com.mx You should be contacted within 2-3 days regarding your node number. If any additional information is required for you to obtain a number, you will be informed as to what it is. If there is more of a delay than either 1) the application did not arrive or 2) the ZC is very busy (which occurs) :). If you prefer to have a particular node number netmail it or place it in the application form. You will be given it if it is not already taken. Once you have a node number, you may begin to use netmail and/or carry echomail conferences. You will receive echomail from a specified system in a network/region. If you are forming a new net, you will either receive echos from a Regional Echomail Coordinator (REC), or the International Echomail Coordinator (IEC). You should find out from the system you obtained a node number from who you will receive echomail from. If you wish to have a secure session (mailer) tell me the Session password beforehand. I will also accept Gecho (Areamanger) passwords if you would like them as well. This assumes a direct feed from me but if you do this with someone else you might do the same for them. If you are knowledgeable about some type of software or computer, let us know. You may be able to become a support node for that product. If you would be interested, send a netmail message to Gert Andersen aka Gert, Nodelist Coordinator at 33:2100/1. Also inform your local coordinator. Thank you for considering AdventureNet Let us know if you have any questions or comments. ****** Now on the InterNet **** You can obtain AdventureNet via a Ftp file transfer site.
